My very first typeface creation was inspired by jewish delis, sharpie doodling, and other beautiful things I took for granted in my childhood. When there wasn’t one good thing I could say about my physical appearance, there was my handwriting. It made me feel beautiful before i knew how to. Back in 5th grade my friends called it the “script of the gods” and when executed it perfectly on the smartboard, I felt like the coolest kid in school. These are grown-up, organic version of those same letterforms.

In the Library of Congress's archives, I stumbled upon an old typographic manual for hand-painted signs from the 1900s. The manual's publisher, was founded by Thaddeus Davids, a fellow born & bred New Yorker. I traced the vintage letters using the recommended brushstrokes and digitized each character, fixing up imperfections and adding unique touches & variations to complete the font family. It's a fun blend of historical design and my own style as a young, self-taught designer.
